2015 Midsize Challenge
While the field of midsize pickups has shrunk to only four for the 2015 model year, we conducted our Midsize Challenge just outside Phoenix where temperatures and test-track access were ideal in March. We rented a track facility in Chandler, Ariz., to get our empirical testing results and used its off-road park to get some "dirt time" behind the wheel of each competitor.
As we've done in the past, we broke the tests into two distinct parts: The bigger portion of points were derived from our empirical testing (zero-to-60 mph times, braking, fuel economy, etc.), and a smaller percentage of points were awarded by our judges.
We had 14 scored empirical tests for these trucks, from track to off-road course to freeways and more. We had our three judges evaluate these four trucks on ride quality, ergonomics, value and more.
Acceleration | Braking | Real-World MPG |
Off-Road Aptitude | What the Judges Said
Four pickups, six days and 21 scored tests later, we've done our most comprehensive test of the midsize pickup truck class to date, taking the competitors to the test track, to the streets, to the dyno shop and to their payload limits.
